The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) supports GW’s postdoctoral community by providing guidance, resources, and programs that foster professional growth and community engagement. OPA drafts, manages, and oversees policies that guide the postdoctoral community, and provides oversight and guidance on postdoc appointments and the hiring process, including salary minimums and benefits. We serve as a central resource for postdocs, offering events, webinars, and workshops throughout the year to support career development and foster connections among postdocs

In addition, OPA partners with faculty, research staff, and administrative staff who mentor and work with postdocs, providing guidance, resources, and support to foster a strong and effective training environment.

OPA and Human Resources (HR) work together to support GW’s postdoctoral community, with distinct areas of responsibility. OPA oversees postdoc appointments, benefits, policies, salary minimums, and professional development, and serves as a central point of contact for guidance or questions. HR manages employee relations and addresses workplace or employment-related concerns.
